Useful Information
Peach Twig Borer
Anarsia lineatella
Crops Affected: Stone fruits including peaches, apricots, nectarines, plums and prunes
States Affected: All states
Life Cycle: Overwinters as first or second instar larvae in cells, known as hibernacula, under the thin bark in limb crotches or in bark cracks. When emerged in spring, young larvae feed on buds and young leaves. Older larvae bore into twigs and fruit. There can be 3 to 4 generations per year.
Damage: As shoots elongate in spring, larvae mine the inside, causing the terminals to wilt and die back. Dead shoots are known as shoot strikes or flags. Larvae will also bore holes in the fruit close to the stem.
Season to Trap: March to October
How To Use: Hang trap with lure inside at shoulder height near at risk or affected crops. Replace lures every 30 days through the season, and replace traps when 70% saturated. Adult males are attracted to the pheromones in the lure and the color of the traps in this kit. Once they land on the sticky trap, they become ensnared, never to mate or lay eggs again.
Additional IPM Solutions: Avoid practices that destroy or disrupt native beneficial insects. Peach Twig Borer may be treated with spinosad, or with a dormant spray of oil plus insecticide.
